Sa Bum Nim Jeffrey C. Rigg

“As a martial artist, I believe in magic. Without it, we would just be kick-boxers.” I began my martial arts education as a wrestler in 1978. My next art was Okinawan Karate taught by Sensei Miyagi. I was introduced to original Korean martial arts through my fellow student Remo Williams. Along the way, I practiced creative conflict resolution using the various Gygax rule systems. In 1999 I looked for a school to begin training and found a wonderful group of instructors teaching Kuk Sool Won™ in South Austin. I know that Kuk Sool Won™ can help me deal with many situations and that the training is always with me, never left behind. I train in Kuk Sool Won™ to round out my skills as a warrior and to improve my conditioning and maintain my health. I find Kuk Sool Won™ to be comprehensive, practical, and enjoyable.

Sa Bum Nim Barbara King/School Owner

SBN Barbara King started training in Kuk Sool Won™ in April 2003. She earned her first-degree black belt in October 2008, her second-degree black belt in November 2012, her third-degree black belt in November 2016, and her fourth-degree black belt in November 2020, from the World Kuk Sool Won Association. Having trained at three different Kuk Sool Won™ schools and being a direct student of Suhn Im Kwahn Jahng Nim Alex Suh (one of Kuk Sa Nim’s four sons), SBN Barbara brings a unique and big picture perspective to her teaching and training. She incorporates all the knowledge she’s learned as a parent (she has two second-degree black belt sons), a student, an instructor, and a school owner to all her classes. SBN Barbara loves the family atmosphere at Kuk Sool Won™ and is grateful for the lifelong friendships she has gained from this supportive community. She is passionate about teaching martial arts to 3-6 year olds and empowering women’s lives through Women’s Self Defense Workshops.

SBN Barbara had the honor of receiving:

Senior 1st Dahn Grand Champion in 2012 World Championship

PSBN Caroline promoted to first-degree black belt in August 2011, promoted to second-degree black belt in August 2015, and promoted to third-degree black belt in May 2020. She began assisting with children’s classes in the fall of 2010 and continued doing so until leaving Austin for college in 2013.
